We aim to completely relieve drinking water companies of managing the infrastructure of drinking water distribution with our proprietary asset management software.

The foundation for Spatial Insight was laid from 2014 to 2019. It all started by collaborating with various water companies to calculate replacement models, and with Techniek Nederland and Stichting Mijn Aansluiting to maintain and support their GIS-platform. SynergieNL was initiated in partnership with municipalities and network operators in the provinces Limburg and Noord-Brabant.

In 2019 Spatial Insight was formally founded, and in the 5 years that followed, we became the market leader in asset management for drinking water distribution in the Netherlands. In the same period SynergieNL expanded to become the largest national coordination platform, and we started to deliver our first international projects. The team grew from 2 FTE at the beginning of 2019 to 10 FTE at the beginning of 2024. The majority of our team has worked at water utility companies before.

Our focus is on delivering directly applicable technical solutions. We develop our proprietary software with our clients and apply the software in the Netherlands and internationally. Our products and services focus on the four different life stages of the system, ‘acquire’, ‘operate’, ‘maintain’, and ‘dispose’. Relevant software is available for each phase to support the asset manager and asset owner. Spatial Insight employs consultants and engineers who can provide advice on the software’s use and are capable of coaching the asset manager and asset owner or taking responsibility for the asset management process.

The Team of Spatial Insight
"We are a team of friends who play at Premier League level"

We are pragmatic and value providing high-quality output over aesthetics. We assist our clients in efficiently and effectively carrying out their work, thereby contributing to reducing water loss and minimising negative impacts on our environment. We are technicians, zeros and ones flow through our veins. This is our strength and weakness, we’re never satisfied with a result, it can always be improved. At the same time, we love to play darts and to beat each other in our monthly Dutch shuffleboard (sjoelen) competition.

We are familiar in the drinking water sector, we speak the language, and the majority of us has worked for utilities before. We are a team of friends who appreciate the third half of the match, while we play at Premier League level. We work hard, but we maintain a healthy and good balance between work and private life. We love our families.

Data security is very important for our clients, and so it is for us. We have organised our company and technical infrastructure in a way that data that we are using is well protected. European law will demand that drinking water utilities will be certified according the NIS2 standard. We are assessing our procedures and methods according the NIS2 Basic standard.

Next to our commercial activities we are contributing to Justdiggit and Bedrijf & Samenleving free of charge. In 2021 we calculated our carbon footprint, but when we had completed the numbers, we were puzzled: what can we do to reduce and compensate? We decided to contact our former PWN-colleague Sander de Haas, a senior technical expert at Justdiggit, and with him we tailored a cooperation of Spatial Insight and Justdiggit. Since then we have contributed to the operation of Justdiggit and her local partners in processing substantial amounts of data about the growth of new trees in Eastern Africa. Bedrijf & Samenleving is a foundation based in Haarlem that connects local businesses with parties and individuals who need support. In different projects we have contributed to the local society in Haarlem.

Whilst the Netherlands is our home market, we are active internationally as well. Visit our pages about our international activities.

Spatial Insight is proud member of the Water Alliance and The International Water Association (IWA).
