It’s very enjoyable to see the various events, both solo and in teams, with men, women, and mixed teams racing at over 70 km/h and transferring over 1500 watts of power from their bodies to the pedals.
But will the massive thighs of Hattrick Harry Lavreysen, the Sportsman of the Year 2025, be enough to pass on the popularity of the sport to the next generation of spectators and athletes? The audience consisted of over 90% white men over 50 (60..?), and the dernies, on which men with bellies race in front of the cyclists, are fueled by petrol, filling the arena with smoke and stench in no time. Is this still relevant in this day and age?
