Regression analysis SI-Regression provides insights into the failure behavior of pipelines as they age. It is a valuable analysis whose results are important for predicting the future performance of the pipeline network. However, the analysis relies on good failure data and pipelines for which the year of installation is known.
In Italy, we are collaborating with five drinking water companies. Complete data is not always available. Therefore, we proposed combining the pipeline and failure data from the five users to create a regression analysis for the Italian market. All five companies participated enthusiastically, and the combined analysis has now been delivered.
An important lesson is that combining the data into a single analysis works well. We can further improve the results by increasing the quality and quantity of the data on one hand, and by adjusting the method on the other. For example, we are looking into a responsible correction for missing lengths.
In the coming years, we hope to perform the analysis more frequently and to transform it into a benchmark for drinking water companies.
