(CLOSE TO) FULLY AUTOMATED GENERATION OF A HYDRAULIC MODEL

SI-Hydraulics

Variety of applications

Generating a hydraulic model from asset data. Fully automated, up to 90% of the required tasks. Hydraulic models are crucial in understanding the water distribution system. Our clients use hydraulic models for a variety of purposes: to reduce NRW, to assess investment projects, to design DMAs and pressure zones, to give input in risk modelling, etc.

Fastest way to reduce NRW

Pressure reduction is one of the four possible contributors to reduce non-revenue-water as defined by the IWA Task force Water Loss in 2002. Hydraulic models help to identify the zones where pressure can be reduced and leakage search and repair will be beneficial. But also in asset management, hydraulic models contribute to risk models like Spatial Insight’s SI-Rehab, where we calculate section dependencies. At the same time, SI-Hydraulics forms the heart of SI-Blueprint and SI-Design, our tools to design water distribution networks.

Automated data preparation

The automated data preparation and automated model generation, opens the door to monthly or even weekly model updates. Forget the annual transfer of asset data to the hydraulic modellers, start relying upon a model that is always representing the outside reality.

This makes SI-Hydraulics unique

  • Close to fully automated generation of a hydraulic model,
  • Leverage our combined expertise of hydraulic modelling, coding, and domain knowledge
  • Easy import of the model into the main commercial hydraulic models

Innovative software and experienced experts

The crucial part in generating a hydraulic model from asset data is the data preparation. Our years of experience have inspired us to define queries and code that manage to systematically organise the data in a way that an algorithm can produce an hydraulic model that be imported in every commercially available hydraulic modelling package. To do so, we combine our capabilities in software development, hydraulic modelling and our domain knowledge.

Volume of lost water

Italian clients have requested to apply SI-Hydraulics to calculate the amount of water that is being lost in leakages. We apply SI-Hydraulics to make estimations about the water saving that can be expected when repairing a selected leakage. Not surprisingly, high pressures will lead to higher flows of leakages than lower pressures. With SI-Hydraulics we can identify the areas in the network where pressure reducing valves will be most contributing to the reduction of non-revenue water.

"SI-Hydraulics is not only used as a stand-alone application but is included in SI-Design and SI-Blueprint, two advanced applications to design pipes in water distribution networks"
Janneke Moors is data scientist at Spatial Insight. She has worked internationally for many years, so he has a wide experience with drinking water distribution and modelling.

SI-Hydraulics produces results in all relevant format, so can be imported in all main commercial hydraulic model suites like Infoworks, MIKE and Watergems.
